The Interview Series: Matt Scolaro

Matt Scolaro Social Media Strategist at PIMM
Matt Scolaro is a talented Social Media Strategist at PIMM.

Where are you originally from?

I am from Putnam Valley, New York.

How did you get started in social media?

Around my junior year of college, I decided to concentrate my marketing studies on the digital realm, as I found it enjoyable and knew it would be in demand.

You also create graphics and logos for clients. Where do you draw your design aesthetic from?

I typically take cues from my clients on how they want their posts to look, but I tend to keep things simple if I am creating from scratch.

What are some of your favorite social media projects you've worked on?

I can't point to one in particular, but creating posting calendars with one common theme is one of my favorite jobs. I love being able to tie different topics and subjects to one theme in a creative manner.

Are there any social media pages you draw inspiration from and why?

I've always enjoyed Hubspot's social media presence. I believe they nailed their branding and design and made it simple, but unique to them at the same time.

What do you think the 3 main components of successful social media pages are?

Consistent posting, engaging content, and completed pages (about section, links, etc).

What is some advice you would give someone who wants to grow their online presence?

Don't spread yourself too thin. You do not have to be on every social media platform all at once. Start with 1-2 platforms where your business plays well, and expand from there.

Besides design, what are some of your hobbies?

I am almost always listening to music or stand-up comedy in my downtime, and I enjoy going to the gym and cooking as well.

Do you have a favorite show these days?

I find it difficult to stick with modern TV shows for long, but I can put on any sitcom from the past 20 years and enjoy it very much.

Do you have a favorite book?

It's been almost a decade, but the original Hunger Games novel is a favorite of mine.
